Jet Harris and Tony Meehan – Diamonds (LP Decca – TAB 68, May 1983).
Jet Harris (July 6, 1939 – March 18, 2011) was bassist for the British band The Shadows. He left the group in 1962, launching a solo career. He has had some success with his instrumental and vocal releases, but his biggest hit was the single "Diamonds." Released in partnership with Tony Meehan, also a former member of The Shadows, the recording reached number one on the UK music charts in early 1963.
After a two-year battle with cancer, Harris died on March 18, 2011 at his home in Winchester.
Daniel Joseph Anthony "Tony" Meehan (2 March 1943 – 28 November 2005) was the original drummer for the British band The Shadows, along with Jet Harris, Hank Marvin and Bruce Welch.
Tony Meehan was born in New End, Hampstead, England. Meehan left the Shadows in October 1961, to work as a producer and studio drummer for Joe Meek and in early 1962 for Decca Records. He teamed up with Harris (who had also left the Shadows and gone to Decca) and as a duo, they had success with the song "Diamonds", which also included Jimmy Page on guitar. "Diamonds" reached number one in the UK charts. Other hits for the duo were their later singles - "Scarlett O'Hara" and "Applejack".
Meehan left music in the 90s to pursue his career as a psychologist. He worked at a local college, teaching psychology until his premature death in an accident at his home in 2005.
