It was recorded between September 1960 and July 1961 and released by EMI Columbia Records on October 14, 1961, the exact date of Cliff Richard's 21st birthday. The record was his first number 1 on the UK albums chart.
Sir Harry Rodger Webb, better known as Cliff Richard (born in Lucknow/British India, on 14 October 1940) is a British singer. With his backing band The Shadows, he dominated the British pop/rock music scene in the late 1950s and early 1960s, before the emergence of the Beatles. Although he was never able to achieve a significant impact in the United States, Cliff remained very popular in Britain, both in music and in films and television. During the last six decades, Richard has had more than 100 hit singles and holds the record (along with Elvis Presley) for being the only artist to be on the best-selling list throughout his entire career (from the 1950s to today).
